Responsibilities:
Will conduct packaging development projects from initiation through manufacture (launch).
Will be expected to deliver packaging systems in support of company goals while working independently with moderate supervision.
This role drives the design, development, testing, coordination, implementation, and maintenance of primary and secondary packaging solutions for commercial products.
Will be a member of multidisciplinary project teams and be called on to lead teams for tasks that are focused on packaging issues.
Essential Job Functions:
Projects will consist of modifications of packaging for existing products as well as the packaging for new products.
Executes projects from primary to secondary packaging development.
Offer input for the creation of project timelines, responsible for meeting timelines, finding solutions to problems, managing expectations, and delivering to those expectations.
Evaluate new packaging process or packaging to increase productivity and/meets or reduces costs.
Balance these goals with accountability for assuring no sacrifice to quality, consumer expectations, or the project schedule.
Utilizes various packaging materials (i.
e.
:
fiberboard, corrugated, plastics, folding cartons (solid fiberboard) plastic and glass bottles, flexible packaging, thermoformed packaging, films, etc.
) to develop cost effective, consumer acceptable packages.
Previous direct interaction with primary and secondary packaging component suppliers on design changes, specifications and managing tooling build projects.
Familiar with execution of engineering studies and/or component verification tests to verify changes/modifications to packaging components.
Coordination and execution of plant line trials, including the generation of test plans and reports.
Develops and executes qualification programs for new package designs and materials.
Identifies, develops, and implements cost savings initiatives as related to package designs and materials.
Performs hands-on evaluation of packaging components for conformance to project requirements.
Develops packaging specifications.
Creates and approves technical artwork specifications.
Reviews and approves of component blueprints for issue with specifications.
Write technical reports to support the component selection process.
Perform financial analysis to support new or revised packaging proposals.
Author SOPs, work procedures, packaging component specifications, package design testing protocols, and oversee testing of the packaging components and packaging systems.
Also responsible for writing customer complaint investigations and supporting Operations documentation changes.
Previous experience with packaging components testing, including drop testing, compression testing, vibration testing), procedures and interpretation of results, Dangerous Goods shipping/testing requirements, leak detection, leak testing, blister burst testing, peel testing, temperature monitoring of shipments and cold chain practices.
Identify new packaging suppliers and CMOs as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Secondary Job Functions:
Travels to supplier and manufacturing locations for support of packaging project activities.
Awareness of future trends, process improvements, and new technologies.
Communicate and introduce as applicable.
Justify, arrange qualification, and participate in compliance audits of packaging suppliers and CMOs as required.
Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Packaging /Materials /Mechanical Engineering, preferred (combination of education and work-related experience could qualify.
) Minimum of 4 years relevant experience in Package Development in the Consumer/Personal Care, Vitamins/ Health Supplements or Pharmaceutical Industry required.
Must have:
Packaging Development experience (taking a clients concept or recommending a packaging solution for solid dosage or capsule/tablet packaging) with focus on primary (packaging that touches the products, like blister packs, bottles, pouches etc.

Must haves:
Expert knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles; manufacturing process flow, analysis, diagnostic equipment, and packaging components preferred Working knowledge of different packaging materials / converting methods; coordination and completion of qualification for new package designs and materials.
High interpersonal skills clearly showing strong communication across departments and with customers Experience purchasing/estimating supplies/materials for client proposals Must be able to understand what must and can't go on a packaging label Must be able to understand what claims can be made on a label Experience with Vitamin/Supplement products a big plus Experience with single-use packaging a big plus Recommended Skills Auditing Blueprinting Business Process Improvement Claim Processing Cost Reduction Financial Analysis Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
